Electrolysis
Electrology
makes permanent hair removal a reality for anybody
who would like to enjoy hair free skin without hassle.
This is a great option for difficult hairs, or hair
Electrolysis is a permanent hair removal procedure
where a small probe is inserted into the hair follicle,
delivering an electrical current which destroys
the follicle, stopping the hair from growing back.
Electrology is fantastic for removing those blonde,
gray, or red hairs that cannot be treated with the
laser.
What
Does An Electrology Procedure Involve?
- You
fill out a brief medical history, which a Certified
Professional Electrologist evaluates.
- After
your consultation, we can perform a test spot or full
treatment.
- A
small disposable sterile probe is inserted into the
hair follicle. A minimal current is delivered to the
hair root through the probe. The hair is tweezed out.
- Most
people experience minimal discomfort during the treatment.
Adjustments can be made to increase your comfort.
You also have the option of purchasing a topical numbing
cream to assist with any additional discomfort.
- All
treatments are performed by a Certified Professional
Electrologist.
- We use sterile disposable probes, latex gloves, and follow Universal Precautions.
How
Does Electrolysis Work?
A small disposable sterile probe is inserted into the
hair follicle. A minimal amount of electrical current
is delivered through the probe to the hair root. The
current destroys the follicle either through the production
of heat or a chemical reaction.
Our
office provides all three modalities of electrolysis,
including multi-probe.
Galvanic: The hair is destroyed by
a chemical reaction.
Thermolysis: The hair is destroyed
by a heat production.
Blend: The hair is destroyed by a combination
of heat and a chemical reaction.
Is Electrolysis
Permanent?
Yes, electrolysis has been recognized as a permanent
hair removal method for over a century. Results are
permanent for all hair and skin types or colors.
What
Areas Can Be Treated?
Electrolysis can be performed everywhere on the body
except the eyelashes and inner ear. Electrolysis works
well on small areas and stray hairs. Electrolysis is
a great alternative to laser hair removal for white,
gray or blonde hairs that lack melanin.
Is
Electrolysis Safe?
Electrolysis performed by a well-trained Electrologist
is safe. At A Hair Never There, Inc., your safety is
very important to us. We use disposable sterile probes
and gloves on all clients. We follow Universal Precautions
and use a state-of-the-art FDA-approved digital epilator
to ensure a safe and effective treatment. We also regularly
complete continuing education to stay on top of all
the latest Electrology trends. All of our technicians
are nationally recognized as Certified Professional
Electrologists.
Is
Electrolysis Painful?
Most clients describe electrolysis as a warm or tingling
sensation. If you find the treatment uncomfortable,
we will adjust the machine to accommodate your particular
tolerance. You also have the option of purchasing a
topical anesthetic numbing cream at our office, if you’d
like additional comfort.
How
Many Treatments Will I Need?
The density and texture of your hair as well as medications
taken, medical history, and other factors can influence
how many treatments you will need. Most individuals
take an average of 6 months to 1 year to achieve complete
clearance of an area. We encourage you to take advantage
of our free consultation to get an estimate of the number
of treatments you may need.

How
to Prepare for an Electrology Procedure
- The hair needs to be long enough to see and grab with
a tweezer. Two days’ growth is usually adequate.
- Avoid deep tanning, which includes sun tanning beds,
2 days prior to electrolysis treatment.
- Discontinue using hair bleaching cream 1 week prior
to electrolysis treatment.
- It is best to refrain from tweezing, waxing, or depilatories for 1 week prior to electrolysis treatment. Try using a cuticle scissors to trim down unruly hairs in between treatments.
Post-Treatment Guidelines
General Care:
It is normal following the treatment for the area to
be red and swollen. These symptoms usually disappear
in 2 to 24 hours.
Avoid any irritation to the skin. Do not pick or scratch
the treated area. This will interfere with the natural
healing process.
More Specifically:
- Keep the area clean using soap and water.
- Apply ice to the treated area to reduce any swelling.
- Do not touch the treated area. Scabs are not common but if they do appear, tell your Electrologist at the following appointment. Do not remove any scabs. Antibiotic cream can be applied to shorten the healing process.
- Do not use any abrasive scrubbing products including loofahs on the treated area.
- Do not use tanning beds and avoid sun tanning on the treated area for at least 48 hours following the treatment.
- Use
only make-up purchased within 90 days, as this will
reduce complications.
